What Is Mulch?
Mulch is a protective layer of organic or inorganic material spread over soil to retain moisture, suppress weeds, regulate soil temperature, and improve the appearance of gardens and landscapes.
How Volume Is Calculated
For rectangular areas, mulch volume is calculated by multiplying length × width × depth. The result is then converted into cubic yards for purchasing bulk mulch.
Weight Estimation
Mulch weight depends on the selected material and its density. Wet mulch is significantly heavier than dry mulch, affecting transportation and delivery planning.
Waste Allowance
Adding a 5–15% waste factor helps compensate for uneven ground, settling, compaction, and minor material losses during installation.
