Estimated Material
Formula
Volume =
Length × Width × Depth
Weight =
Volume × Density
What Is Sand?
Sand is a naturally occurring granular material widely used in concrete, masonry, paving, landscaping, playgrounds, drainage systems, and backfilling construction projects.
How Volume Is Calculated
For rectangular areas, sand volume is calculated by multiplying length × width × depth. The result is then converted into cubic yards for estimating bulk material requirements.
Weight Estimation
The total weight depends on the selected sand type and its density. Wet sand is considerably heavier than dry sand, affecting transportation and delivery costs.
Waste Allowance
Adding a 5–15% waste factor helps compensate for compaction, uneven surfaces, spillage, and installation losses, ensuring sufficient material is ordered.
